FAQs

Q?

Why should i choose DC Computers ?

A.

Here at DC we believe in good after sales support an rely on word of mouth and repeat custom heavily, so going above and beyond customer expectation is our ethic. While some other companies tend to do as little as possible or only what they have been asked, we cannot ignore a computer that comes to us and has issues other than the one it was brought in for. So whether you have lost Wifi, forgot your password or got infected, every computer that comes by our care goes through start-up optimisations, removal of unwanted or malicious programs as well as updates and virus checks.

Further more if you purchase a computer from us, whether new, used or refurbished we install free anti-virus, do as many updates as possible and optimise drivers, start-up and general windows behaviors. The reason we do so is that it leaves less room for error, for example other computer retail companies may sell a device and leave it down to the customer to install and setup, often people do not do this correctly or fail to do updates which in turn leaves the device more vulnerable.

We believe that there is a genuine need for friendly high street computer shops still and while we do not have the buying power that a lot of online retailers have that buy in volume, our approach is less cold, still fairly competitive price wise and has advantages like being able to look and try the products before you buy and no shipping charges.

Q?

Do you do custom builds?

A.

Of course, we love custom bespoke systems as they are enjoyable to build and provide us with much satisfaction when the customers needs have been 110% fulfilled. Whether its a gaming rig, music studio computer or a workstation to run machinery at a company we have over a decades experience in system building for niche requirements.

DC’s director “Dean” has had over a decades experience building business systems and networks for office, reception and user workstation requirements. He has proven his business support to be so trusted that many local businesses rely on his speedy expert knowledge when it comes to Business I.T related issues.

Further more our W-S-M manager “Rob” has proven experience in music studio computers and is trusted by many local musicians to build their machines, Rob has also recently had his own gaming PC and many others he’s built posted by the likes of: NZXT, CORSAIR, ROG, ASUS and TTL @ Overclock3D forums and Youtube hardware reviews channel.

Q?

Do you sell only new computers?

A.

No, we like to cater for everyone, so at both stores we have a range of both new, official refurbished and pre-owned computers. As with all of our machines they are all tested prior to the customers purchase ensuring that upon purchase the device has passed hardware diagnostics.

Q?

What kind of warranties do you offer ?

A.

With new products of any kind purchased from us we do a full years warranty against general failure and product defects. When it comes to pre-owned computers we offer 30 Days due to the fact that we run hardware diagnostics on the device before we purchase them from the customer or company. In some cases our official Microsoft refurbished business laptops come with 60 Days as the company we purchase them from offer us that from point of sale to the end user.

With new builds some of the parts from certain manufacturers like Kingston or Corsair RAM come with Limited Lifetime warranties, in the event that you need to return these parts we are willing to do so under the year’s warranty we provide completely free of charge, after that year has passed the customer can contact the manufacturer and go through their RMA process which is often very simple, if you do not or cannot achieve that we can deal with it for you but will have to charge for the time it takes to process it and ship it.

Q?

Do you repair games consoles or printers?

A.

Due to our long history and love for PC platform gaming the only thing we can do to repair games consoles is offer you the chance to purchase a better cooled, better made gaming device that delivers a far superior gaming experience.

As for printers, regrettably we used to repair them but due to the cost of many printers these days, and the time it can take to service them, factoring in the cost of inks used if the heads need cleaning we decided it was no longer a viable service to offer. However if you purchase a printer from us and it fails in the first year it is covered by warranty and will be dealt with accordingly.

Q?

Can i upgrade my laptop ?

A.

To a certain extent, yes. When it comes to laptop upgrades you can often increase the ram size, hard drive space and cpu but it varies massively model to model. Usually the best upgrade to install in a laptop to increase load/boot times is an SSD drive, Some laptops can accommodate two 2.5″ drives, in this case installing an SSD as the boot drive and leaving the previous as storage space can vastly improve the overall performance.

When it comes to upgrades such as better graphics cards, usually only very high-end gaming focused laptops have removable graphics cards.

Often if you upgrade the CPU or GPU on a laptop it can suffer with increased heat issues due to the original design layout and cooling solution not being adequate enough for the new more powerful part.
